If you've played the Create mod for Minecraft, you know how satisfying it is when a line of shafts and gears just works. Zentura's gears didn't feel like that. They connected through menus and didn't line up neatly.
So I rebuilt them. Parts now sit on a 1 metre grid and connect just by where you put them. Shafts placed in a row join into one long shaft. Small gears mesh with the gear beside them, and a small and a large gear mesh corner to corner for a 2:1 ratio. Gear teeth line up properly as they turn. Machines have a visible socket where power goes in, and you need to point a shaft straight into it.
New parts:
- Bevel gears to turn a corner
- Gearboxes that send power out four ways
- Clutches to switch a line on and off
- Gear shifts to reverse it
- Pulleys with belts
Overloaded parts now shake and creak, so you can hear a problem before you see it. Wearing engineering goggles shows a card with a part's speed and how hard its network is working. If two gears are fighting each other, a red cross shows you where.
Crafting also got redone into an icon grid like Factorio or Rust, with a queue.
