Block games usually stop drawing the world a short way out and fill the rest with fog. I wanted to be able to stand on a hill and see far away, so I built distant terrain: a cheaper version of the land that draws past the normal block range, trees included.
Going far from the start also broke the maths. Past a certain distance positions get imprecise and things start jittering, so the world now quietly re-centres itself around you. You'll never notice it, which is the point.
The same few days also brought:
- A pass for weak hardware: faster start, automatic quality and a frame budget
- Creative and survival modes, with flying in creative
- Layered forests with grass that moves in the wind
- The first version of this website
